This Kitchen is Done!
OK, before you get too excited - the kitchen is ALMOST done. I’m still waiting on my refrigerator and dishwasher. I was prepared to wait on the dishwasher, but the refrigerator was delayed for two additional months! Appliances are taking much longer right now so if you are planning a kitchen renovation, order your appliances now and don’t start the work until they have arrived. #blamecovid
But, here’s the good news! Everything else is done and I love my new kitchen. Here’s a little video tour as I just don’t think photos do it justice…
I’m so glad I decided to use blue tile for my backsplash. I really wanted to use something black and white, but nothing was working for my budget or timeline. This forced me to consider a color and I’m thrilled with how it turned out.
Now, let’s talk money. Being transparent with how much things cost, helps my readers understand the real numbers and not the ones you see on HGTV. My original budget was $50,000 for all the work I had planned and my costs (as of today) are $52,609. Here’s my breakdown:
Kitchen - $34,754
Wood Flooring - $10,284
Fireplace & Built-In - $3,127
Laundry Room - $1,077
Lighting Changes - $730
Painting - $2250
Door Knobs - $387
My kitchen came right at my $35,000 budget - even with some costs I had not planned on. I had to pay someone to install a new venting system above my range and I didn’t figure in the costs of installing my new disposal - which included a switch. I also decided to add crown molding. I was only under budget on my counters, but that gave me enough to cover the costs I didn’t count on.
The flooring was a lot more than I had planned (about $3,000) but it was worth the cost. I was able to do real wood floors vs. vinyl plank and this change made the biggest impact to my overall result and my budget. The only other expense I haven’t paid for are my pantry shelves. The initial quote I got on those were a little high, so I’m re-thinking the plan and hope to have those done in the next few weeks.
I have so much more to share with you, but that will have to wait until I have the spaces photographed next month. I’ve got window treatments coming, fun art for the wall and a few other updates. My new fireplace and built-in is my absolute favorite part of the renovation. I sit on my couch at night and just enjoy everything. I’ve been designing beautiful rooms for over 25 years and this is the first time I was able to execute a renovation to my own home. I’m so thankful and it was worth every penny!
