One Room Challenge {week three and four}
The planning stages of a room design are the most important, but not very exciting. I’ve literally spent the last two weeks waiting for items to arrive and figuring out the final details on this master bedroom so I can implement my deign plan. I’m happy to say, that decisions are made! The One Room Challenge has given me the gentle nudge I needed to get this room finished. 4 weeks to go…
Let’s start with the bed. I decided to go with the floral/bird print for my headboard and that fabric has been ordered. I found the most amazing quilt at my local Homegoods that I’m using for the main part of the bed. It’s a crushed velvet in the perfect shade of lavender and it was only $45! The bedskirt will bring in the soft blue color. I’m really happy with how the bed is going to look, but I also want to tell you about how I make my bed feel great when I crawl in each night.
I like a firm mattress and replaced mine about a year ago. To give it a little bit of softness on top, I have this AMAZING mattress topper. I’ve also been on the hunt for a comfortable sleeping pillow for years. I’m a side sleeper and I love this pillow for my main pillow. I spend a lot of time in my bed. I’m actually writing this post from it. So, how it feels is more important to me than how it actually looks and having a great foundation makes all the difference.
Another BIG decision I made is the new wall color. I bought four quarts and painted large samples on my wall. I narrowed it down to two and painted those in another area just to be sure. The winner is White Truffle and the room is getting painted this weekend. I always recommend painting a sample, in your room, before committing to a color. The lighting, the furniture and even the flooring you have affects the way a paint color looks in your space. I can’t wait for the boring beige to go!
Finally, I decided to take on two DIY projects - changing the color of a pair of lamps and a large floor mirror. One turned out great, the other not so much. My bedside lamps belonged to my mom and I really like the scale of them, but the color was way off. After a few coats of light green paint and a gold finish rub, they have a whole new life! My mirror, on the other hand, was a complete disaster. Thank goodness for primer spray paint! I’m taking another stab at it this weekend and will post the final outcome next week.
Oh, and my new dresser was delivered and I can’t wait to share what I’m hanging above it. It might make you say hmmmm, but I love it and that’s all that matters! Check back next week for more updates.
