Let’s Get Ready for Easter Sunday

We are hosting our very first Easter Sunday lunch in our new home and I’m so excited to start planning. Since we were out of town last weekend, today is my first real chance to sit down and figure out the menu and how I want to decorate the table. I don’t have enough of my formal china to use and to be honest, I’d rather not worry about it this year, especially with a few little ones joining us. I’m not a fan of using paper for a sit-down meal, so plastic it is. Thankfully, Walmart just released a new collection that I absolutely love. It comes in three great colors: blue, green and gray. I ordered 12 dinner plates, two oval serving platters and two large bowls. I also grabbed some paper placemats from Hester and Cook, one of my go-to brands. To finish it all off, I’ll visit a few local shops for a white tablecloth and fresh flowers. Simple, pretty and easy to pull together!

Fresh flowers are one of the easiest ways to bring your home to life when you're entertaining. Whether it's a big holiday meal or a simple gathering, they instantly make a room feel more special. Trader Joe’s and Publix are my go-to spots for flowers. They always have a great selection at good prices.

Even if flower arranging isn’t your thing, there’s a simple trick to making store-bought flowers look custom. Start by taking apart the mixed bundle and grouping each type of flower. Trim any extra leaves from the stems, then arrange one type at a time, mixing them throughout instead of clumping them together. For example, you don’t want all the roses in one spot. Spread them out so every part of the arrangement feels balanced.

Tulips are an Easter classic and they look beautiful alone or with a little greenery. Try placing a handful of stems in three small vases lined up in a row, like I did in this breakfast room. Or keep it simple with one full arrangement in the center of your table. Either way, it adds a fresh and cheerful touch to your celebration.

Now that I have the table figured out, I need to work on the menu. Honey Baked Hams have never let me down, so we’re ordering one of those. My mom always made twice-baked potatoes for Easter and I’m carrying on that tradition. They require a little work, but they are one of my favorite side dishes. I can prepare them ahead of time and just have to pop them in the oven when we get home from church. I’m a traditionalist, so I’ll be asking my guests to bring green beans and macaroni and cheese. I just need to find a fun cocktail recipe. In addition to flowers, I like to always have a new drink to share with my guests when I entertain. Pinterest is my go-to for ideas and I pinned some great one on my recipe board today. I’ll edit this post after I’ve decided which one to make and give you my honest feedback. Whatever I decide, it’s going to have a Peep garnish on the rim.
