Three Simple Ideas to Refresh Your Outdoor Space
As the weather warms up, there’s nothing better than spending time outside with family and friends. Whether you have a small patio, a spacious backyard or a screened-in porch, a few simple updates can make your outdoor space feel fresh and inviting. Here are three easy ways to get your space ready for the season.
Add Colorful & Durable Outdoor Textiles
One of the quickest ways to update your outdoor area is by using outdoor textiles like rugs, throw pillows and umbrellas. These elements add color and personality to your space while making it feel more like an extension of your home. You can also easily change them out each season for a new look.
I recently ordered this umbrella for our back patio. It’s inexpensive and I love the light blue color with the white piping. It will give us a little sun protection during the brightest part of the day as well as something tall. I also love this floral rug and round pillows from Grandin Road. See what some color can do for an otherwise neutral space?
Bring in Ambient Lighting
Good lighting transforms an outdoor space, making it feel cozy and inviting even after the sun sets. Outdoor lamps and lanterns add instant ambiance. You can do a lamp that looks just like an indoor style or the rechargeable ones that you can scatter around. I have these LED lamps in blue and they were perfect for the food table at our recent outdoor gathering. You can find lanterns in so many stores, but these from Target are great because they come in lots of sizes. Groupings always feel better to me than singles! Use battery powered candles instead of wax ones for less mess.
Refresh Your Outdoor Furniture
If your furniture is looking a little tired, a simple refresh can make a big impact. Start by giving existing pieces a good cleaning. An influencer I follow on Instagram highly recommends this product to get off all the mold that has built up over the winter. Cushions are expensive, so take care of them so they last longer. Covers are a great way to keep them protected when you aren’t using them. We used Coverstore a few times for our clients and they have lots of sizes available.
Outdoor furniture has come a long way and there are so many materials now that you can truly make your porch look like a living room. This is a photo I took at High Point furniture market a few years back. Everything here can stay outside! Yes, that sofa and chair are for outside.
A few thoughtful updates can completely transform your outdoor area, making it a space you’ll love all season long. Whether you’re entertaining guests or just unwinding after a long day, these simple changes will help you create a stylish and comfortable retreat. Looking for more design inspiration?
