High Point: Decorating Trends I Saw
Last month, I took a trip up to High Point, North Carolina to attend the furniture market and wanted to share some of my favorite (and not so favorite) finds. Going to market is so important because I’m able to touch, feel and sit on things I source for projects. I love finding a piece that I saw online and loving it even more in person. I’ve also found things that weren’t so great in person! I also go to experience all the new introductions that the manufacturers are excited to show us. And the free food and drinks don’t hurt.
One look I saw repeated over and over, had a very strong western influence. I attribute it to the popularity of the show “Yellowstone”. Some of this look I really loved and some felt off to me. Leathers in shades of caramel and butterscotch colors, heavy grain texture on the wood pieces, horses and buffalos for the walls and plaid fabrics were great. Furniture that looked like I made it myself or pulled from someone’s basement, not so much.
Another look I saw a lot of were manufacturer’s using very light wood colors - whitewash and natural looking stains were everywhere. Not as much gray, which was a nice change. To me, you can never go wrong with a medium brown stain for your furniture. It’s classic and works with so many color schemes.
I’m not sure I would call this a trend, but it was definitely a look that I would love to use. Being from Florida, I tend to shy away from anything that is tropical looking, but these light fixtures were so fun. The white metal mixed with the natural texture and a little oyster shell thrown in really caught my eye.
Each market, I always have a short list of things I’m looking for myself and this one was no different. On mine was dining room furniture, a king bed and rugs. It’s safe to say, I found all of this and more. That sink vanity has grasscloth wrapped doors in the most beautiful shade of blue. You may be seeing this again in my guest bathroom.
The last thing I want to show you are the great coffee tables I saw. Most of us either have a round, square or rectangle in our home, but look at these unique options. Two shapes nested together. An upholstered ottoman with a bridge table across it. Groups of round tables with an upholstered ottoman underneath.
I usually only get to market once per year, but I may try to go again in October. It all depends on the projects I’m working on and how busy things are around the office. Plus, I may need a few more things for Bentley Grove.
Thanks for Reading!
