Dreams Come True {take one}

At Jennifer Taylor Design, giving back to our community is close to our hearts. Last month, I was contacted about a special project—creating a dream bedroom for a local teenager named Victoria. This bright and courageous 15-year-old has been battling Optic Glioma, a condition that has required her and her family to travel frequently to Jacksonville for treatment.

We are so happy to be partnering with Dreams Come True, a remarkable non-profit organization dedicated to granting the dreams of children with life-threatening illnesses. Since 1984, they have made nearly 5,000 dreams come true for children in Northeast Florida, including 98 dreams for those from the Tallahassee area.

Victoria's wish is to have a space where she can feel calm, peaceful and is a true reflection of her personal style. After meeting with Victoria and her family, we got to work crafting a design plan that covers her entire wish list. TikTok has been an unexpected source of inspiration! Here is what the bedroom looks like today.

As with all of our decorating projects, we start with a furniture plan. The L-shaped bedroom was a challenge, especially with all the windows. I’m amazed we were able to include all of her furniture requests - lofted bed with clothing storage, make-up vanity, storage cabinet, comfortable chair and a display shelf.

We presented our ideas earlier this week and she loved everything! Here are a few of the slides we showed her. In addition to furniture, we are tackling the closet, painting the walls and she’s asked for “clouds that light up and hang from the ceiling”. We’re still working on that last request! Thankfully, I have a young design intern who has been a huge help in sourcing for this project. Our goal is get everything installed in early October.

Now, we need your help to make Victoria's dream a reality. We are seeking donations to cover the costs of materials, to create a beautiful and comfortable space that Victoria can truly call her own. Every contribution, no matter the size, will bring us closer to making this dream come true. Our painter, Chris Leskanik, has agreed to donate his labor and Sherwin Williams is donating all the materials.

If you would like to donate, please visit this donation page. Be sure to write “Victoria's Dream” in the comment box or contact us directly by replying to this email. Your support will make a profound difference in Victoria's life and show her that her community is behind her. Together, we can make a lasting impact.

Here I am with Victoria (center) and Annelise (my intern) after our presentation on Tuesday. She met with us after a long day of travel to Jacksonville and back. We are so happy to give her a bedroom she can’t wait to come home to!
