Trends I'm Loving Today

Twice a year, design professionals descend on a small town in North Caroline to see all the latest and greatest in the furniture world. High Point Market is happening now and my Instagram feed has been full of some beautiful (and not so beautiful) images. I like to go to the fall market in October when it’s not so hot or crowded. Most of the photos in this post are from when I was there last year.

I’m not big on trends. I think it’s my age and me being scarred by all the 80’s bathrooms I’ve had to re-design over the years. I do believe trends have their place and here are some I am loving today.

TEXTURE I love caning and it’s everywhere at market. Even though caning has been around forever, furniture manufacturers are using it in new ways. I even saw woven leather used to create texture. Can you find the texture in the photo of this family room I designed?

STATEMENT LIGHTING This is one of my favorite kind of trends to incorporate in my designs. Lighting is super easy to change later and gives so much character to your space. Gold is still the finish of choice and the beads are everywhere! Here’s a beaded chandelier I installed a few years ago. This project was also full of texture!

KNIFE EDGE CUSHIONS This is a great trend for those wanting a more “relaxed” look in their upholstery. I saw it in leather, fabric and outdoor furniture. Because this is such a new trend for me, I don’t have any project photos to share so this is one from a favorite vendor for outside living spaces.

Summer Classics

COLOR It’s so refreshing to see color coming back! I was getting tired of all the whites and neutrals. I’ve always liked to use color in my projects and recommend bringing into your space with a rug, an accent chair or accessories. Don’t be afraid to use color in your space. Here are some of my favorite projects where color played a small, but important role.

I did see a ton of trends that I didn’t love on my Instagram, but I’ll save that for another post. Good design is about having things you love in your home. I challenge you to incorporate some of these trends into your favorite rooms.

Thanks for Reading!
