Bringing the Beach to Tallahassee

Jennifer Taylor Design - Tallahassee, Florida

I’m excited to share a project that I’ve been working on a for a while. My client first reached out in early 2019 about taking her interiors to the next level. She had a long wish list…new furniture, window treatments, lighting, paint, flooring changes and tons of carpentry work. I put together my design agreement and budget for her consideration. It took six months, but then they were ready to get started! Why six months? I never asked, but I assumed she needed time to really think about the investment and how a “renovation” of this size would effect their family. Fast forward to June of this year and this is the email I received after our first installation day and I couldn’t agree more.

Thank you again for doing such an amazing job!!  B really loves everything too. He said that we should have hired you years ago. :)

Let’s start at the very beginning. Here are some of the photos I took during our initial consultation. The client didn’t like most of her furniture and was ready to take her home to the next level. What we selected had to be family friendly and would last for years to come.

The living room is connected to the breakfast room and kitchen and isn’t very formal. We created a comfortable seating area with four swivel chairs around an ottoman and all are upholstered in “kid proof” fabrics. In addition to new furniture, I designed some simple alterations to the cabinetry. Bookcases were added to the top and doors on the bottom.

The breakfast room had a large built-in bench that really limited what kind of table and chairs we could use. So, we removed it! New furniture, lighting and window treatments gave this space a ton of personality and way more space to move around.

The family room is tucked away from the rest of the house and serves many functions; a comfortable place to watch television, play games and do crafts. The reclining sectional is a perfect choice so everyone has a spot for movie night and I love the small ottomans we tucked in front for those who don’t get a recliner. The corner is my favorite area! The rattan chairs bring in the coastal vibe and I love the family photos.

The bedroom was the biggest transformation. My client’s daughter said “it looks like a hotel” when they first saw it and I couldn’t agree more. The upholstered bed, blackout curtains and colorful art turned this bedroom into the perfect retreat for these busy parents.

What’s your favorite room? Tell me in the comments below. I’d love to hear from you. Designing a project of this size takes a lot of patience and trust from clients, especially when your installation is during a pandemic. The end result was totally worth it! Don’t you agree?

Thanks for Reading!
