Big Personal News
I can’t believe I’m finally sharing this news as it’s been in my back pocket for almost a year. WE ARE BUILDING A HOUSE! My current home has hit the market and as soon as it sells we’re breaking ground. Here’s a little backstory…
Bryan and I celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary this month and in that time we’ve lived in two houses, in two different towns. I’m in Tallahassee and he’s in Monticello (about 20 miles away). I have to say that it’s been a nice transition from being single for so many years, but it’s time to create a home for the two of us. We have three children, between us, and they are all out of the “nest”.
Our initial plan was to purchase an existing home in Monticello, but we could not find the right one after months and months of looking. So, we began the process of designing a floor plan and finding a contractor. From the time we started the plan until we got the final price back on the house was SEVEN MONTHS. I never thought it would have taken that long. This has been a true learning experience for me and a huge test of my patience. Our new home will be built in Monticello, but my office will stay in Tallahassee.
I’ve been finalizing all the plan details and I created a rendering of the main living spaces so I can truly envision how the space will look. This was so helpful as it pointed out things I wanted to change - before we start construction. Here’s a little sneak peak of the pantry and kitchen.
What do you think so far? I can’t wait to organize that walk-in pantry! My plan is to share the ENTIRE process with you all once we officially start. I’m not sold on the green kitchen cabinets quite yet, but I’m definitely loving the idea of using a long table instead of a traditional island. This is why doing a rendering is so important. It really helps determine the best and worst parts of your design.
Please send me all the good vibes that my house will sell soon. If you know someone who is looking for a great house in Midtown Tallahassee, reach out and I’ll send you the link. It’s on a quiet dead-end street and inside has been totally updated.
In addition to the new house, we got a puppy! Shelby is a toy Australian Shepherd and is the sweetest girl. I have not had a baby dog since I was in my twenties. Jack was a six month old rescue and was already potty trained, so I forgot how much work a puppy can be. It’s totally worth it as we’re already in love with her - Jack not so much.
